Welcome to 6th Grade Math!
Hello and welcome to sixth grade! My name is Ms. Ray, and I’m excited to be your 6th Grade Math Teacher here at Mirage Elementary School!
I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies and earned my Master’s in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University. Teaching is my passion, and I’m thrilled to share this school year with you and your child.
My three daughters and I are proud Arizona natives. We love escaping the heat by heading north to enjoy cooler weather. In our free time, we enjoy traveling, spending weekends at the beach, hanging out at the pool, visiting the local library, crafting, playing board and card games, camping, and playing volleyball at the park. Family time is very important to us!
In our math classroom, we focus on Building a Thinking Classroom: a learning environment where students are encouraged to think critically, creatively, and collaboratively. We will explore math concepts through engaging tasks using Illustrative Mathematics, Magma Math, and Goblins. This year, students will deepen their understanding of topics such as geometry, ratios, unit rates, percentages, and dividing fractions.
Our work will go beyond just numbers—we’ll make connections across subjects like reading, writing, science, and social studies through real-world problem-solving and interactive learning.
I’m looking forward to a fun and successful year filled with growth, curiosity, and mathematical discovery!
